1. FOR ALL
All who are to come in touch with electronically signed documents, it is essentially to know that:
To verify validity of an electronically signed document, you should not obligatory be a user of the e-signature card, it’s sufficient with Windows computer, internet and software, you can for free of charge download in the Latvian Post Certification Services E-ME internet site www.e-me.lv.
- By the E-ME signing and verification application e-Signer, electronically signed documents have the expansion *.edoc.
- E-ME *.edoc document is a container wherein there may be one or several sites and one or several electronic signatures.
2. FOR IT SPECIALISTS
Sections 2.1 and 2.2 are meant for IT specialists. Therein described are once to-be-performed operations to prepare the computer for work with electronic documents.
If you are a private person or you have necessary special knowledge or rights in order to install the software on your computer and configure it, then you may perform the installation by your own efforts, but it is recommended to entrust the installation and configuration works to an IT specialist. It is the work of your IT administrator.
2.1. Necessary technical provision
To check up an electronically signed document, needed is the provision as follows:
- Computer with Microsoft Windows Professional 2000 SP4 or Microsoft Windows Professional XP SP2, or Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 operation system;
- Internet connection;
- Software .net framework 2, which should be installed on the computer (software may be for free of charge downloaded from the following internet site http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en), ), it is comparatively small and usually does not require additional computer resources);
- Signing and check-up application e-Signer, which should be installed on the computer (software may be for free of charge downloaded in the E-ME internet site https://www.eme.lv/csp-web/eDocPublish.aspx; to note that the software version should be at least 1.0.).
2.2. Installation and configuration
- How to correctly install, configure and check up the computer is described in the installation and configuration description, which may be downloaded or opened in E-ME internet site /lv/atbalsts/instal_konfig/index.html.
- If you fail to perform installation and configuration works, then call your IT specialist to help you.
3. FOR EVERYDAY USERS
Sections 3.1 and 3.2 are meant for everyday users of electronic documents who should work with electronically signed documents – should receive, read and verify documents, signatures and time marks.
3.1. Check-up of an electronically signed document
Here you can find a short video training how to check up an electronically signed document by means of e-Signer.
- When the necessary technical provision (computer, internet, software) are prepared for work, we can perform opening and check-up of an electronically signed document.
- Save in your computer the received electronically signed document. Note that the electronically signed document, by not damaging or not losing the electronic signature, cannot be saved by using the option “save as”, for due to a change of the name lost is the consistence of the document and the electronically signed documents is damaged.
- Open the electronically signed document from the e-Signer program. If the e-Signer program is correctly installed, then the electronically signed document may be opened also by a double click or by pressing the key <Enter> on the relevant *.edoc file.
- When the document is opened, then you can read or export the files included into the document and view and check up the electronic signatures attached to the document.

A - here you can see all electronic signatures of the document and the time marks, as well as to view information on signers (in this case there is one signature and one signer);
B – here you can check up whether the electronic certificates used in signing of the document are valid and check up the time mark, if any such is used (take into account that the document is valid also without the time mark);
C – here you can see, open, save and use all documents included into this *.edoc document and the electronic document in this case sent is one document).

3.2. Information and support:
Technical problems of your computer should be settled by your IT administrator.
If you have any problems with the e-Signer program operation, then look for necessary information in the E-ME Home page. If you cannot manage to settle the problem by help of www.e-me.lv then help to you will be rendered by the E-ME Help Service, by calling ot the phone 7018989 or by writing to e-mail help@e-me.lv.

Starting from January of 2007 it will be able to upload and check up E-ME e-Signer’s signed *.edoc documents also in the E-ME internet homepage www.e-me.lv.
